Staff Software Build Engineer

Role overview This is a staff-level engineering position focused on software build systems within a medical device organization. The role is based in Belgium and operates on a remote-first basis, with occasional onsite collaboration when requested by leadership. The work centers on the infrastructure that compiles, packages, and delivers software used in regulated medical technology products.

Responsibilities - Design, maintain, and evolve the software build and continuous integration pipelines that produce regulated medical device software releases - Ensure builds are reproducible, traceable, and aligned with quality system requirements typical of medical device development - Diagnose and resolve complex build, toolchain, and dependency issues across platforms and development environments - Collaborate with software, quality, and platform engineering teams to integrate build automation into broader development workflows - Mentor engineers on build engineering best practices and contribute to architectural decisions for toolchain and infrastructure choices - Support audit and documentation activities tied to build configuration changes and release artifacts

Requirements - Significant professional experience in software build engineering, DevOps, or release engineering roles - Strong proficiency with build automation tools, scripting languages, and version control systems such as Git - Hands-on experience configuring and troubleshooting CI/CD systems (for example Jenkins, GitLab CI, or comparable platforms) - Familiarity with regulated development environments and the documentation discipline they require - Ability to work effectively with distributed teams in a remote-first setting - Professional-level English communication skills; additional European languages are a plus
