About this role
Role overview A UK-based contract role for an Azure Data Architect to lead the design and delivery of a greenfield Azure data platform for a major transformation programme. The position is remote-first with occasional meetings in the South Wales region, runs for an initial three months with likely extension, and requires an active or eligible UK Security Clearance (SC).
Responsibilities - Lead the architecture and delivery of a new Azure-based data warehouse platform. - Review, challenge, and enhance existing high-level solution designs, then collaborate with engineering teams on detailed technical designs. - Define architecture standards, best practices, and long-term technology roadmaps while providing hands-on technical leadership throughout delivery. - Work alongside Data Engineers to build production-ready solutions, reviewing code, designs, and technical deliverables for quality and consistency. - Drive architectural decisions across security, governance, scalability, and performance. - Engage with business stakeholders to translate requirements into technical solutions and support deployment, release management, and CI/CD processes within Azure DevOps.
Requirements - Proven experience as a Data Architect delivering Azure-based data platforms. - Strong background designing enterprise-scale data warehouse and analytics solutions. - Extensive hands-on experience with Azure SQL, Azure Data Factory, Power BI, and Azure DevOps. - Track record delivering greenfield data platform implementations. - Solid understanding of dimensional modelling and modern data warehouse design. - Experience establishing CI/CD and DevOps practices for data platforms, with strong stakeholder management and Agile delivery experience. - Must be UK-based and hold, or be eligible to obtain, current UK Security Clearance (SC).
Nice to have - Data governance and data quality framework experience. - Azure security and access control architecture. - Background in consultancy, technology consulting, or professional services. - Experience within highly regulated environments. - Microsoft Azure certifications such as Azure Solutions Architect Expert or Azure Data Engineer Associate.
Benefits and work setup - Fully remote within the UK with ad hoc travel to South Wales. - Initial three-month contract with likely extension. - Day rate of £575 to £625. - Single-stage Microsoft Teams interview process.
