About this role
Role overview An Azure Data Architect is needed to lead the design and build of a brand-new enterprise data platform on Microsoft Azure. This is a hands-on, delivery-focused architecture position within a major transformation programme, blending strategic influence with day-to-day technical leadership across engineering teams. The role is fully remote for UK-based candidates, with occasional travel to South Wales for in-person meetings.
Responsibilities - Lead the end-to-end architecture and delivery of a new Azure-based data warehouse platform from inception - Review, challenge and refine existing high-level solution designs to ensure they meet enterprise standards - Collaborate with Data Engineers to produce detailed technical designs and build production-ready solutions - Define and enforce architecture standards, best practices and long-term technology roadmaps - Drive key architectural decisions across security, governance, scalability and performance - Provide hands-on technical leadership, including code and design reviews, throughout the delivery lifecycle - Engage with business stakeholders to translate requirements into clear technical solutions - Support deployment, release management and CI/CD processes within Azure DevOps - Champion modern engineering practices across data, cloud and DevOps teams
Requirements - Proven experience as a Data Architect delivering Azure-based data platforms - Strong background designing enterprise-scale data warehouse and analytics solutions - Extensive hands-on experience with Azure SQL, Azure Data Factory, Power BI and Azure DevOps - Track record of delivering greenfield data platform implementations - Solid understanding of dimensional modelling and modern data warehouse design patterns - Experience developing scalable, secure and maintainable cloud architectures - Knowledge of CI/CD and DevOps practices applied to data platforms - Strong stakeholder management and requirements gathering skills, with the ability to communicate with both technical and non-technical audiences - Experience working within Agile delivery environments
Nice to have - Familiarity with data governance and data quality frameworks - Experience of Azure security and access control architecture - Background in consultancy, technology consulting or professional services - Experience operating within highly regulated environments - Current UK Security Clearance (SC) or eligibility to obtain it - Microsoft Azure certifications such as Azure Solutions Architect Expert or Azure Data Engineer Associate
