Staff Android Engineer, Pick & Deliver

Role overview

A Staff-level Android engineering role focused on the mobile experiences that power in-store order picking on a large grocery delivery marketplace. The position carries technical leadership responsibilities within a fast-moving organization that supports multiple retailers, new picking models, and ongoing market expansion.

Responsibilities

- Set the technical direction for Android applications that support retailers and shoppers through every phase of order picking. - Design, build, test, and maintain production Android code with Kotlin, Jetpack Compose, Coroutines, and reactive frameworks such as RxJava. - Partner with Product, Design, Backend, iOS, retailers, and external vendors to translate operational needs into reliable mobile solutions. - Own projects end-to-end, balancing near-term retailer priorities against long-term platform scalability and maintainability. - Improve application performance, reliability, observability, and developer experience through profiling, instrumentation, and architectural refinement. - Mentor engineers, lead design discussions, and establish engineering best practices across the broader Android community.

Requirements

- At least seven years of professional software engineering experience, with substantial Android application development. - Strong proficiency in Kotlin plus hands-on experience with Jetpack Compose, Coroutines, and reactive programming. - Track record of leading complex, cross-functional software projects from design through production launch. - Experience designing maintainable Android architectures and improving performance, reliability, testing, or observability. - Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively across Product, Design, backend, and external stakeholders. - Clear written and verbal communication, including the ability to explain tradeoffs and align diverse audiences.

Nice to have

- Mobile product experience in retail, logistics, fulfillment, delivery, or other operational settings. - Background supporting multiple product teams, retailers, or markets simultaneously. - Depth in performance profiling, startup optimization, crash reduction, or large-scale instrumentation. - Contributions to mobile platform strategy, shared components, developer tooling, or Android modernization. - Mentoring and technical influence without direct authority. - Prior work with external partners, vendors, or enterprise customers.
