Remote job
Founding Software Engineer - Infrastructure
Job details
About this role
Role overview
A founding-level infrastructure engineer is needed to help design and build the compute runtime that powers an agent-native cloud platform. The role goes well beyond deploying containers: it spans the runtime that schedules workloads, manages networking, provisions compute, and scales infrastructure, while exposing the APIs AI coding agents need to operate production systems. It is a high-ownership position with direct influence on the architecture, technical direction, and early engineering culture of a startup-style team.
Responsibilities
- Partner closely with leadership to architect and implement the core compute runtime that underpins the platform - Take end-to-end ownership of major infrastructure systems, from initial design through production operation and ongoing reliability - Build and refine container scheduling, placement, autoscaling, and lifecycle management for both stateful and stateless workloads - Drive improvements in cold start latency, provisioning speed, and deployment reliability - Develop networking primitives such as service discovery, load balancing, and private networking - Work hands-on with Linux, containers, microVMs, and related virtualization technologies to optimize the underlying substrate - Improve storage systems including snapshots, cloning, and persistent volumes - Strengthen platform observability through better debugging, monitoring, and operational tooling - Produce design documents and translate proposals into dependable production systems - Contribute to engineering culture, technical standards, and the infrastructure roadmap as an early team member
Requirements
- Strong understanding of distributed systems and how large-scale platforms behave in production - Prior experience building production infrastructure or platform software - Deep knowledge of Linux internals - Hands-on experience with containers, Kubernetes, Docker, Firecracker, or comparable virtualization technologies - Solid grasp of networking fundamentals, including TCP/IP, routing, load balancing, DNS, and service discovery - Excellent written communication and system design skills - Ability to operate with high autonomy, make pragmatic trade-offs, and move systems from idea to production - Comfort working closely with founders and helping shape product, architecture, and the engineering organization
Nice to have
- Experience building agent-native infrastructure, AI developer platforms, or tools explicitly designed for AI coding agents
