Role overview This role delivers smooth, reliable media playback by working across every level of the multimedia stack, from user-facing video player interfaces down to the firmware that drives decoding hardware. The position is embedded in a geographically distributed team that values clear technical communication, constructive code review, and self-directed problem solving. It combines systems programming, browser engine work, and collaboration with both open-source communities and external clients.
Responsibilities - Ensure end-to-end integration across player UIs, middleware, codecs, and hardware decoding firmware. - Contribute to browser engines and multimedia libraries such as GStreamer and FFmpeg. - Work with hardware-acceleration interfaces including OpenMAX and VA-API on Linux-based platforms. - Communicate technical ideas clearly to peers, clients, and distributed team members. - Participate constructively in code review and iterate on design feedback.
Requirements - Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to explain complex technical topics. - Self-direction and self-motivation suitable for a distributed working environment. - Readiness to engage in constructive, iterative code review.
Nice to have - Prior experience with browser engines or multimedia frameworks such as GStreamer. - Familiarity with FFmpeg, OpenMAX, VA-API, and multimedia formats and protocols. - Experience with multimedia on embedded devices. - Working knowledge of Rust on GNU/Linux platforms.
