Browsers Developer (WebKit focus)

Role overview Maintain and improve the WebKit web engine, the rendering engine used by millions of people, as part of an open-source-focused browsers team. The work spans web platform features, embedded systems, multimedia, graphics, and networking, giving the role room to evolve toward areas that match the developer's strengths. It is a remote position run as a distributed, agile team with English as the common working language.

Responsibilities - Develop and maintain features inside the WebKit C++ codebase, with adjacent work in HTML, CSS, and JavaScript where needed. - Drive features through their full development lifecycle, from design through review and landing. - Collaborate with internal developers and the wider WebKit community to reach consensus on changes. - Write blog posts, documentation, and conference talks that explain work being shipped. - Contribute code upstream and engage in public engineering discussion.

Requirements - Strong C++ skills for working in a large open-source codebase. - Working knowledge of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript as they intersect with the engine. - Genuine enthusiasm for learning unfamiliar parts of a broad technology stack. - Strong interpersonal and English communication skills for distributed collaboration. - Self-direction in overseeing the lifecycle of features from proposal to release.

Nice to have - Background in embedded systems, multimedia, graphics, or networking layers of a browser. - Prior open-source contributions to WebKit or another major browser engine. - Public speaking or technical writing experience.
