Senior Backend Engineer

Role overview Build and improve backend services for an identity verification platform, with a focus on secure, reliable APIs and systems that can handle substantial usage. The role spans implementation, performance and security improvements, and technical collaboration across product and engineering; it also includes mentoring and helping set engineering practices.

Responsibilities - Design, build, and maintain backend services and APIs, emphasizing reliability, security, and performance. - Work with product and design partners to turn feature needs into technical solutions. - Improve existing systems for speed and scalability, and troubleshoot complex backend issues. - Review code, uphold quality standards, and contribute to shared engineering practices. - Support junior engineers through mentoring and pairing. - Assess technologies and approaches that could improve the platform.

Requirements - At least five years of backend development experience. - Strong knowledge of Node.js, Python, or Go. - Experience with distributed systems and microservice architectures. - Understanding of security practices and experience with a major cloud platform. - Familiarity with containerization and SQL or NoSQL databases.

Nice to have - Experience in identity verification or fintech, or knowledge of cryptography and secure communication. - Familiarity with compliance topics such as GDPR, KYC, or AML. - Contributions to open-source projects or experience with real-time communication systems.
