Senior Principal Software Engineer - Generative AI & Mobile Platforms (Remote)

Role overview Set architecture direction for a large consumer-facing mobile platform and guide its modernization, combining native mobile experiences with scalable backend services. The role pairs deep technical leadership with hands-on architectural work, cross-team alignment, talent development, and a mandate to bring generative AI into software development practices.

Responsibilities - Define mobile platform architecture and reusable foundations, and develop proofs of concept to evaluate new technologies. - Shape technical roadmaps and align teams on architecture and engineering practices across a portfolio. - Lead modernization efforts spanning mobile applications, backend services, delivery pipelines, and cloud resources. - Guide adoption of AI tools and practices across the software development lifecycle. - Act as an escalation point for complex technical challenges, high-priority incidents, and cross-team decisions. - Mentor and coach engineers, support performance development, and help attract and retain technical talent.

Requirements - At least seven years of relevant experience and a bachelor’s degree or equivalent in a related field. - Expertise in at least two technologies used in the organization’s IT environment, with familiarity with retail business processes and Agile or Lean development. - Strong software architecture experience across mobile and server-side systems; the preferred profile includes 10+ years in software engineering and four or more years leading architecture for a major consumer mobile application. - Experience delivering major platform modernization; familiarity with server-driven UI, Kotlin Multiplatform, GraphQL backends, microservices, and high-performance caching is especially relevant. - Practical experience with generative AI APIs, prompt engineering, or code-generation tools, plus strong communication and technical influence across large engineering groups. - Must be legally permitted to work in the United States.

Nice to have Experience with Android and iOS development, GraphQL federation, Java/Spring services, mobile release pipelines, automated testing, application security testing, observability, and personalization systems. The role includes 4–6 direct reports and may involve overnight travel, generally under 15%.
