Sr. Manager, Data Science

Role overview Senior Manager of Data Science for a new UK-based team being established as part of a global health and wellness platform. The leader will help stand up the function from an early stage, setting technical direction and managing people, while operating as one unified team with US-based data science counterparts. The role blends hands-on technical credibility with roadmap ownership and executive-level stakeholder partnership across Finance, Marketing, Operations, and Product.

Responsibilities - Help shape the UK data science function's working norms, technical culture, and onboarding for new joiners. - Operate the UK team as a single function with the US-based data science org, maintaining consistent standards, context, and priorities across time zones. - Partner with the Director of Data Science and the US team to prioritize competing requests from Marketing, Operations, Product, and Finance into a shared roadmap. - Review designs and code at sufficient depth to catch bad technical decisions early without writing production code daily. - Step into the highest-ambiguity problems on the team's roadmap and make tie-breaking technical calls. - Establish and enforce technical standards including code review, documentation, model monitoring, and experimentation rigor, partnering with staff-level individual contributors. - Take accountability for whether 0-to-1 builds ship reliably in production and deliver the intended business outcome.

Requirements - 8+ years of experience in Data Science or ML Engineering, including 2+ years directly managing data scientists or ML engineers. - Track record of joining or helping shape a brand-new team, office, or region from an early stage. - Experience working on or leading a team split across countries or significant time zones, comfortable with async workflows. - Demonstrated ability to develop and retain data science talent, calibrate performance, and lead through periods of growth. - Strong technical credibility in Python, SQL, and applied ML (regression/classification, time-series, causal methods) sufficient to review team decisions. - Proven ability to sequence a roadmap across competing stakeholder demands with limited headcount and communicate tradeoffs to senior leadership.

Nice to have - Direct experience with US/UK or similar transatlantic split teams. - Experience leading or reviewing work in customer behavior and propensity modeling, applied forecasting, optimization, or marketing measurement. - Background in healthcare, direct-to-consumer/subscription, or pharmaceutical industries.
