Software Engineer, Home Design Experience
Job details
About this role
Role overview Serve as the most experienced engineer on the team building a browser-based 3D home design application that lets anyone design a home. This staff-level role combines hands-on production work with architectural leadership, partnering with the product and UX lead to take rough ideas and turn them into customer-ready software that needs no manual.
Responsibilities - Rapidly prototype new home design workflows and convert the ones that land into customer-ready software. - Lead development of interactive 3D home design workflows that connect the application UI, design data, and real-time 3D scene into a responsive experience, including AI-supported and agentic interactions. - Own application architecture and technical delivery from early prototypes through production, making decisions across the frontend, application state, and service integration including performance, reliability, and testing. - Act as an independent technical partner to the product and UX lead, challenging assumptions, identifying risks early, proposing alternatives, and helping decide what to build next. - Turn ambiguous goals into concrete implementation plans, resolve technical unknowns through working code, and implement critical pieces personally to keep delivery moving. - Partner with the platform team to use and improve shared application foundations, identifying which patterns should be reused across the broader product and helping document them. - Help less experienced engineers take ownership through pairing, code review, and clear technical guidance, and establish patterns they can confidently extend.
Requirements - A track record of personally architecting, building, and shipping substantial web applications with responsibility for technical decisions from initial implementation through production use. - Deep hands-on experience with TypeScript, React, and modern web application architecture including application state, API integration, performance, and maintainability. - Hands-on experience with Three.js and browser-based 3D applications, especially design or CAD tools, with the ability to make complex spatial interactions intuitive. - Genuine enthusiasm for AI-forward development and for building AI-supported or agentic product experiences. - Experience making technical decisions independently in partnership with a product or design lead, including explaining tradeoffs, constructively challenging proposed approaches, and committing to a path forward. - Sound judgment about what to build for the immediate product and what to generalize for reuse, with experience collaborating across application and platform teams. - Experience helping less experienced engineers deliver through implementation, mentoring, and technical guidance, plus a growth mindset and comfort with ambiguity on a team and product area still being defined.
Nice to have - Strong instincts for design and craft even when not serving as the designer on the team.
Benefits and work setup - Fully remote company with regular in-person team meet-ups in hubs across the US. - Competitive salaries with significant equity in a well-funded, fast-growing company. - Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage for full-time US employees. - Flexible PTO, meaningful maternity and paternity leave, short- and long-term disability plans, and a 401(k). - Home office stipend and support for ongoing learning and development.
