Role overview
An early-stage software product company is hiring a senior back-end developer to take full ownership of its back-end systems. The product helps recruiters source candidates from many online platforms and engage them through personalized outreach at scale. The role blends hands-on engineering with architectural decision-making inside a small, founder-led team.
Responsibilities
- Own and evolve the entire back-end, covering data retrieval, storage, management, and syncing across multiple third-party APIs - Design, build, and maintain services primarily using Node.js, TypeScript, and MongoDB on AWS infrastructure - Develop and refine web-scraping and other data ingestion pipelines that power the candidate search experience - Participate in two-week sprint cycles, including ticket scoping, estimation, delivery, and team retrospectives - Work directly with co-founders and technical partners on system design and product priorities - Balance mostly asynchronous independent work with real-time collaboration windows during overlapping hours
Requirements
- 4–7 years of back-end development experience, with proven ownership of production systems (substantial hobby projects acceptable if they can be demonstrated) - Strong proficiency with MongoDB (ideally MongoDB Atlas), Node.js, TypeScript, and AWS - Professional-level spoken and written English - Prior experience in a startup or scaleup building a software product - Comfort with iterative experimentation, fast feedback loops, and a rapidly changing environment - A self-directed, ownership-oriented mindset with strong communication skills
Nice to have
- Familiarity with Firebase or Google Cloud services - Working knowledge of JavaScript, Python, GraphQL, and Docker - Hands-on web scraping experience - Data modeling and system architecture skills
