Remote job
Founding Engineer (Swift / macOS / Voice AI)
Job details
About this role
Role overview This is a founding-engineer seat at an early-stage, pre-seed startup building a macOS application that gives AI coding assistants a spoken voice. The role focuses on Swift and SwiftUI development, on-device speech pipelines, and integration hooks into popular AI coding tools. It is a small, fast-moving team that ships weekly and is looking for engineer number one.
Responsibilities - Build and evolve the macOS application using Swift, SwiftUI, and system-level audio APIs. - Implement real-time voice features, including on-device speech-to-text, text-to-speech, interruption handling, and latency tuning. - Develop and maintain integration hooks into third-party AI coding tools, adapting as those products evolve. - Make frequent shipping decisions, prioritising working software over lengthy specifications. - Collaborate closely with the founder on product direction, technical architecture, and weekly releases.
Requirements - Hands-on experience shipping a macOS or iOS app that real users rely on, or building a real-time audio product. - Daily familiarity with modern AI coding tools such as Claude Code, Codex, or Cursor, with informed opinions about their trade-offs. - Strong Swift and SwiftUI skills, plus comfort working close to the metal on audio and system-level concerns. - Bias toward shipping quickly, iterating in public, and owning outcomes end to end. - Self-directed working style suited to a small, fast-moving team.
Nice to have - Experience with on-device speech recognition, text-to-speech, or low-latency audio pipelines. - Comfort working across multiple time zones in a remote-first environment.
Benefits and work setup - Full-time role based in San Francisco, New York, Toronto, or remote within the US and Canada. - Compensation in the $100,000–$140,000 USD range plus 0.5–2% equity.
