Senior Engineering Manager (Infrastructure)
Job details
About this role
Role overview Lead the infrastructure engineering team responsible for the platforms that product engineers rely on to build and run services. The scope includes cloud systems, deployment pipelines, databases, observability, incident response, and infrastructure for AI workloads. This is a technical leadership role combining team development, platform strategy, and hands-on participation in design reviews and operational response.
Responsibilities - Hire, coach, and develop engineers, establish an effective on-call rotation, and build a team that supports the wider engineering organization. - Set the infrastructure roadmap across cloud resources, deployment systems, database foundations, observability, and language-model infrastructure. - Improve reliability, performance, and scalability for a Python web application and the cloud environment it runs on. - Make routine infrastructure work self-service through tooling and clear ownership boundaries, freeing the team to focus on longer-term platform improvements. - Reduce incident impact through safer deployments, architectural safeguards, and effective incident response. - Define production-readiness expectations for AI workloads and coordinate with security partners on container security and secrets management.
Requirements - Experience leading infrastructure or platform engineers while remaining technically engaged in architecture, design reviews, and incidents. - Strong background with cloud infrastructure at scale, particularly AWS, plus deployment pipelines and reliability practices. - Familiarity with observability platforms such as Datadog and the operational needs of production services. - Ability to balance support demands, strategic planning, on-call responsibilities, and external dependencies. - Experience setting platform goals and explaining infrastructure investment and tradeoffs to senior leaders and engineering teams. - Hands-on use of AI coding tools in day-to-day engineering work.
Nice to have - Experience leading a major architecture or operations transition, building or governing language-model infrastructure, or working in healthcare or another regulated field.
