Senior Simulation Engineer
Job details
About this role
Role overview Architect and develop simulation systems used to design, evaluate, and test autonomous aircraft. You’ll connect vehicle dynamics, aerodynamic data, controls, actuation, environmental effects, and visualization, taking models from early analysis through software-in-the-loop, real-time operation, and flight-test support. As an early team member, you’ll help establish engineering practices and grow simulation capabilities across multiple vehicle programs.
Responsibilities - Build nonlinear six-degree-of-freedom vehicle models and integrated simulation environments. - Develop software-in-the-loop systems and advance models toward real-time execution and flight-test use. - Create and maintain aerodynamic databases, translating high-fidelity analysis and test data into efficient simulation models. - Develop automated test harnesses, regression testing, Monte Carlo studies, and model-verification methods. - Investigate simulation results, find root causes, and explain model assumptions and limitations. - Set technical direction for simulation tools and workflows; mentor engineers and coordinate with aerodynamics, controls, autonomy, propulsion, software, and flight-test teams.
Requirements - Significant experience simulating aircraft or other complex dynamic systems. - Expert MATLAB and Simulink skills, plus strong C and C++ development experience, including integration with MATLAB and Simulink. - Experience with nonlinear 6-DOF models, rigid-body dynamics, equations of motion, numerical integration, coordinate transformations, and reference frames. - Strong background in software-in-the-loop systems, control analysis and tuning, stability analysis, and real-time constraints. - Knowledge of sensor, actuator, and environmental behavior, including nonlinearities, delays, bandwidth, turbulence, wind, and gusts. - U.S. person status under applicable export-control rules.
Nice to have - Experience building aerodynamic data from CFD, wind-tunnel, lower-order analysis, or flight-test sources; creating surrogate or reduced-order models; and applying methods such as lifting-line theory, vortex-lattice, or panel analysis. - Experience establishing tools and processes from the ground up, evaluating technical partners, or mentoring engineers.
