Job details
About this role
Role overview
Lead frontend engineering for a data-visualization product used to explore, interpret, and communicate observability data. The role combines hands-on development with technical leadership: shaping multi-quarter initiatives, improving visualization quality and reliability, partnering across engineering teams, and helping ensure shipped work solves meaningful user problems. This is a remote position for candidates in Canada or the United States, aligned to Eastern or Central time zones.
Responsibilities
- Lead complex technical initiatives from initial problem definition through delivery, rollout, user feedback, and outcome measurement. - Build and evolve interactive visualizations and related frontend experiences, with a focus on usability, clarity, performance, and reliability. - Mentor engineers through code reviews, design discussions, pairing, written proposals, and guidance on difficult technical decisions. - Collaborate across squads by presenting designs, demonstrating progress, representing roadmap priorities, and influencing shared technical direction. - Participate in on-call responsibilities, incident response, post-incident learning, and customer escalation support for the systems and experiences you help build. - Contribute to testing strategy, visual regression coverage, developer productivity, and ongoing improvements to existing visualization components.
Requirements
- Staff-level experience delivering production frontend software and leading work that spans multiple planning cycles. - Strong proficiency with TypeScript and React, plus practical experience building data-rich interfaces and interactive visualizations. - Ability to frame ambiguous problems, make sound technical decisions, and connect engineering work to measurable user outcomes. - Demonstrated skill in mentoring engineers and raising engineering quality through feedback, collaboration, and clear technical communication. - Comfort working openly across team boundaries, influencing without relying on formal authority, and supporting operational responsibilities. - A user-focused approach to balancing product usability, maintainability, performance, and reliability.
Nice to have
- Experience with visualization libraries such as uPlot or Apache ECharts. - Background in open-source software, observability, dashboards, or developer-facing platforms. - Experience improving visual regression testing, component quality, or frontend developer workflows.
Benefits and work setup
- Fully remote work with a globally distributed team and transparent, high-autonomy culture. - Company-supported AI coding tools within security guidelines. - In-person onboarding, career development pathways, and a global annual leave policy that includes designated shutdown days.
