Telematics Coverage Engineer

Role overview

A platform serving physical-operations customers across logistics, construction, energy, and related industries is hiring a Telematics Coverage Engineer to broaden vehicle telemetry capture across diverse on- and off-highway architectures. The role spans OEM telematics research, vehicle network analysis, and the practical engineering work needed to capture and interpret data that powers new product capabilities. It involves both hands-on vehicle work and cross-functional collaboration with engineering and product teams.

Responsibilities

- Research vehicle network signals, proprietary OEM data, and field logs to identify valuable telemetry parameters. - Analyze wiring diagrams, body builder guides, and OEM documentation to determine vehicle connection and data-access strategies. - Connect to vehicle networks, capture and analyze logs, and document findings for engineering and product teams. - Use live vehicle debugging, data scraping, reverse engineering, and custom scripts to expand coverage. - Provide technical insights that shape new telematics features and improve how vehicle data is interpreted. - Travel to customer sites to interface with vehicles and validate coverage solutions. - Drive coverage initiatives in partnership with global, cross-functional teams.

Requirements

- 4+ years of experience analyzing automotive vehicle network traffic or working with vehicle telematics systems. - Bachelor's degree or higher in electrical, software, automotive engineering, or a related field. - Hands-on experience interfacing with vehicles and vehicle communication networks. - Proficiency in C, C++, Python, or an equivalent programming language. - Experience with physical debugging tools such as multimeters, oscilloscopes, or scan tools. - Familiarity with reverse-engineering tools and hardware such as Vehicle Spy, PCAN, or SavvyCAN. - Working knowledge of automotive standards including SAE J1979, J1939, ISO 15765, WWH-OBD, OBD-II, UDS, J1708, or J1587.
