Remote job
Software Engineer, Online Giving
Job details
About this role
Role overview
A remote-first Software Engineer role on a team that owns the donor giving experience end to end. The work centers on mobile-first donation forms, giving pages, and payment flows covering one-time, recurring, and membership giving across multiple processors. Engineers ship code that schools rely on to fund scholarships, programs, and facilities, where correctness down to the penny and conversion improvements translate directly into charitable impact.
Responsibilities
- Build and maintain donor-facing giving forms, giving pages, and admin tools with attention to conversion, accessibility, and mobile-first design. - Develop and harden payment flows across one-time, recurring, and membership giving, emphasizing reliability and observability. - Work across the full stack, from UI components to backend services, database queries, and performance tuning. - Own features and small-to-medium projects end to end, including technical design, coding, automated testing, deployment, and production support. - Partner with tech lead, product manager, designer, and fellow engineers to translate user needs and business goals into technical solutions, surfacing blockers and trade-offs early. - Participate in sprint planning, story scoping, estimation, code review, and team initiatives like technical debt refinement and coding standards; share on-call and reconciliation duties on a rotational basis.
Requirements
- 3+ years of hands-on, real-world development experience in a full-stack role. - Proficiency with a modern front-end framework (React or Vue.js) plus a backend language and framework such as Ruby on Rails, Node.js, or Python; Rails and React experience is preferred. - Solid SQL skills including schema design, query writing and optimization, and a real concern for data integrity. - Experience building and integrating with RESTful APIs. - A test-driven mindset that treats unit, integration, and end-to-end testing as part of how you build. - Familiarity with cloud platforms such as AWS or Azure and CI/CD pipelines, plus strong debugging instincts in production.
Nice to have
- Payments experience with Stripe or comparable platforms, ACH, digital wallets, webhooks, idempotency and retries, reconciliation, or testing against third-party services. - Ruby on Rails and RSpec background. - Experience building consumer-facing checkout or donation flows. - Background on fundraising, crowdfunding, fintech, or e-commerce products. - Familiarity with caching, observability tooling, or triaging performance and stability issues.
Benefits and work setup
- Remote-first position based in the United States, with expected travel to multiple company-wide and team-specific onsites throughout the year. - Scrum-based cadence with one-week sprints and multiple production deploys per day. - Clear growth path to Senior Software Engineer through ownership of larger projects, deeper architectural judgment, and mentoring.
