Staff Backend Engineer, Database Automation (Go)

Role overview

A staff-level backend role building the automation layer that powers database operations across the platform. The engineer designs and ships Go-based services and tooling that take the manual effort out of provisioning, scaling, and maintaining data systems. The position is fully remote across Canada and the United States and targets engineers who think in systems, APIs, and developer experience.

Responsibilities

- Design and implement Go services that automate database provisioning, configuration, and scaling workflows - Build CLIs and APIs that product and platform teams use to manage data infrastructure safely - Reduce operational toil by codifying migrations, failovers, backups, and recovery procedures - Partner with infrastructure, security, and application teams to keep automation observable and safe - Mentor engineers and review designs across the broader backend organization

Requirements

- Staff-level experience building production backend systems in Go - Strong understanding of database internals across at least one major relational engine and ideally a non-relational store - Familiarity with infrastructure-as-code, GitOps, and cloud platforms such as AWS, GCP, or Azure - Experience designing distributed systems, including concurrency, retries, and graceful failure handling - Ability to write clear design documents and review code across multiple teams
