Role overview
A senior engineering role focused on packaging, distribution, and release engineering for a large-scale developer platform. The position owns the build pipeline that turns internal components into installable artifacts for end users, working closely with product development teams to integrate new features and maintain existing ones across multiple Linux distributions and architectures.
Responsibilities
- Build and maintain system packages for supported Linux distributions and CPU architectures, including coordinating release activities. - Develop and maintain official container images and the tooling that automates efficient component building. - Provide guides, infrastructure, and self-service capabilities that enable development teams to package their own components. - Collaborate with security teams to identify and remediate vulnerabilities and keep bundled dependencies current and secure. - Manage cloud marketplace listings and integrations with major hyperscaler providers. - Validate installation, update, and upgrade documentation and processes ahead of each release. - Track license compliance across bundled dependencies and submit components to partners for certification and validation.
Requirements
- Hands-on experience with Linux build toolchains such as autotools, make, CMake, and Nix. - Practical experience building container images and operating container build tooling in production. - Background packaging software for Debian-based and Red Hat Enterprise Linux-based systems, producing .deb and .rpm artifacts for cloud-native applications. - Familiarity with continuous integration systems such as GitHub Actions, Jenkins, Travis CI, or comparable in-product CI features. - Skill writing and maintaining complex shell scripts in production environments. - Strong written and spoken English communication, with the ability to work effectively in a remote, largely asynchronous setting. - Experience working with at least one major cloud provider such as AWS, GCP, or Azure.
Nice to have
- Additional programming experience in Ruby, Go, Python, or Rust. - Familiarity with observability tooling such as Prometheus and Grafana.
