Staff Software Engineer

Role overview This Staff-level engineering role sits on a team responsible for the core code collaboration experience at a large AI-powered developer platform. The work spans user-facing features and underlying platform systems that power diffs, pull requests, reviews, merging, and AI-assisted code review, all at the scale of hundreds of millions of developers. The position blends hands-on technical leadership, architectural ownership, and mentorship across distributed services.

Responsibilities - Design, build, test, and ship scalable technical solutions across multiple services, taking pride in maintainable code and deep familiarity with the systems involved - Provide technical leadership through mentorship, pairing, and code reviews, while guiding quality standards and integration with downstream dependencies - Own the reliability and health of production systems, including participation in on-call rotations and first-responder duties during live incidents - Author architecture briefs and proposals, run code experiments, and design APIs that enable clean integration between software components - Establish CI/CD pipelines and testing strategies that protect solution quality, performance, and security - Partner with cross-functional teams and stakeholders to align technical roadmaps with product goals, incorporating telemetry and customer feedback for continuous improvement

Requirements - 9+ years of professional software engineering experience, or an equivalent combination of relevant degree and experience (for example, a bachelor's degree with 7+ years or a master's with 5+ years) in computer science or a closely related field - Proven track record shipping production software in languages such as Go, Ruby, Rust, Python, JavaScript, C, C++, C#, or Java - Demonstrated ability to lead technical direction across teams and mentor engineers through reviews and pairing - Hands-on experience with distributed systems, API design, and continuous integration and delivery tooling - Strong debugging skills using telemetry and profiling tools to diagnose issues and optimize code - Track record collaborating with product and cross-functional partners to prioritize engineering work against business goals

Nice to have - Experience driving adoption of new technologies or methodologies across an engineering organization - Background shaping testing plans, success metrics, and architectural compliance with security and regulatory standards
