Role overview
A senior field hardware engineer leads the end-to-end field hardware and pilot enablement track for a connected-vehicle video and analytics product, from pre-installation readiness through pilot close. The role blends advanced onsite troubleshooting with program ownership, building repeatable field processes, coordinating cross-functional data-collection efforts that feed AI/vision teams, and mentoring junior technicians.
Responsibilities
- Lead onsite investigation and resolution of complex vehicle camera hardware, installation, power, harness, calibration, mounting, connectivity, and SD-card issues - Own hardware readiness for enterprise pilots, including pre-installation reviews, vehicle and site assessments, installation planning, deployment support, validation, and closeout - Travel to customer and pilot locations on short notice to resolve issues quickly and support successful pilot-to-contract conversion - Serve as the technical escalation point for junior technicians, customers, partners, installers, and internal teams during high-priority field incidents - Plan and manage controlled field data-collection programs, including vehicle rental, equipment readiness, scenario design, testing, and delivery of high-quality training footage to the vision/AI team - Establish repeatable field processes, manage program risks and dependencies, mentor junior staff, and deliver clear status reporting and recommendations to leadership
Requirements
- Senior-level experience in field hardware engineering for vehicle camera, telematics, or similar in-vehicle electronics - Hands-on capability with installation, power systems, harness routing, mounting, calibration, connectivity, and storage troubleshooting - Demonstrated success planning and running enterprise hardware deployments or pilot programs from readiness through close - Experience acting as a senior escalation resource and mentoring junior field technicians - Strong cross-functional communication with engineering, customers, partners, installers, and program leadership - Willingness to travel frequently, sometimes on short timelines, to customer and pilot sites

- Background supporting AI or computer vision initiatives, including designing field scenarios for training-data capture - Experience creating or refining standardized installation playbooks, checklists, and field processes
