Field Service Technical Specialist

Role overview

This Field Service Technical Specialist role supports the full lifecycle of connected vehicle hardware — from early product design through customer deployment and ongoing field quality. The position sits at the intersection of engineering, customer success, and field operations, helping ensure telematics products are installed correctly, certified properly, and supported throughout their use in the field. The work blends hands-on technical problem solving with cross-functional collaboration across product, sales, R&D, learning, and partner networks.

Responsibilities

- Contribute engineering input to new product development, including requirements analysis, specification definition, and field or simulation testing - Provide technical guidance to customers, resellers, and installation partners on product specifications, data needs, and wiring schematics - Support sales teams with application engineering input based on partner and customer requirements - Develop and run installer certification programs, including tests, audits, and performance evaluations - Maintain installation documentation, product guides, and service price lists so field materials stay current - Perform in-field installations when needed for demonstrations, pilot deployments, or training - Track emerging automotive, electronics, and connectivity technologies and propose improvements

Requirements

- Post-secondary education in mechanical, electrical, or computer engineering, or a related discipline - Hands-on experience with automotive electronics, including test equipment and hand tools - Working knowledge of communications systems such as cellular, GPS, and serial data - Strong interpersonal, analytical, and problem-solving abilities - Comfort managing multiple concurrent projects in a fast-paced setting - Willingness to travel internationally up to 40% of the time

- Experience working directly with customers, resellers, or installation partners - Background in installer training, certification, or quality audits - Familiarity with connected vehicle or fleet telematics environments
