Senior Software Engineer, ASW Launch Ops

Role overview This position sits on the Application Software organization of a large-scale autonomous drone delivery company, building the operational platform that turns a new market from an idea into a live, revenue-generating network. The work covers site acquisition, infrastructure design, permitting, construction execution, deployment tracking, and launch readiness for a platform intended to scale from tens of sites to hundreds or thousands.

Responsibilities - Serve as the technical owner for critical capabilities across site acquisition, permitting, infrastructure design, construction execution, deployment tracking, and launch readiness, safeguarding long-term technical health and strategic direction - Reduce manual coordination, shorten site-launch timelines, improve launch-date predictability, and give cross-functional leaders clear visibility into execution, dependencies, and risk - Define APIs, data models, service boundaries, and architectural patterns that prioritize maintainability, auditability, observability, and pragmatic evolution - Translate complex real-world processes into software that supports long-running workflows, government and vendor interactions, physical assets, documents, permits, approvals, dependencies, and exception handling - Build resilient integrations across ERP, GIS, document management, permitting, construction and project management, asset management, and internal operational systems - Design for frontline users, prototyping workflows, validating them in real operating environments, and driving adoption

Requirements - Demonstrated ability to ship high-impact capabilities that reduce manual intervention, shorten cycle times, increase predictability, improve throughput, or strengthen reliability, with concrete metrics to back the results - Strong cross-functional communication skills, with the ability to prioritize decisively and influence stakeholders across engineering and operational organizations without relying on formal authority - An owner's mindset that balances speed with correctness and understands the operational consequences of software used to deploy physical infrastructure and support safety-critical operations

Nice to have - Hands-on experience with modern backend languages and frameworks, API design, and distributed systems - Background building platforms that integrate with enterprise systems, mapping tools, or document and permit workflows - Comfort with production excellence practices including SLOs, observability, runbooks, incident response, and follow-up improvements

Benefits and work setup The role can be based in South San Francisco or remotely within the United States, with regular travel expected to work closely with stakeholders and understand operational challenges firsthand. Remote team members should expect more frequent travel, typically a few days at a time, potentially once per month.
