Head of Production Test Engineering

Role overview A consumer hardware company is hiring a Head of Production Test Engineering to lead the team responsible for production testing across a portfolio of physical devices. The role spans the full product lifecycle, from new product introduction through mass production, and requires building a unified testing strategy that coordinates hardware, firmware, manufacturing, and external factory partners.

Responsibilities - Build and own a unified production testing roadmap covering new products, launches, mass production, and infrastructure improvements, with clear priorities, timelines, owners, and resource plans - Lead and grow the engineering team, allocating resources, developing capabilities, and balancing urgent production issues against planned work - Coordinate dependencies across hardware, firmware, manufacturing, and adjacent teams, surfacing risks and blockers early so testing is ready for product launches - Define production test strategies and acceptance criteria, and oversee the development and maintenance of test fixtures, equipment, software, and supporting infrastructure - Coordinate test deployment at contract manufacturing sites, keep factory instructions and monitoring current, and partner with engineering and manufacturing to root-cause defects and validate fixes - Analyze test data, return trends, and support cases to identify systemic issues and convert recurring defects into product, process, or test improvements

Requirements - Hands-on background in electronics production testing, with a strong grasp of the full product lifecycle from prototype through mass production - Solid technical foundation including the ability to read and develop schematics, use measurement equipment, solder, and debug interactions between electronics, firmware, and test software - Practical experience building or rolling out automated tests and production test fixtures, with strong Linux and Python skills, including pytest - Prior experience leading an engineering team, including planning, prioritization, resourcing, and people development - Track record of managing cross-team dependencies and working directly with factories on technical requirements, production changes, and issue resolution - Working English proficiency for calls, written communication, and technical documentation with factory partners

Nice to have - Experience launching production on-site in China and working directly with Chinese manufacturing partners - Comfortable use of AI tools to accelerate prototyping and engineering workflows
