Role overview A senior backend role at a fintech company building infrastructure for rent payments, responsible for designing, building, and scaling the services and integrations behind payment, billing, identity, and partner systems. The position leads scoping, design, and implementation for owned APIs, drives production rollouts to completion with minimal oversight, and collaborates closely with product and design peers through small, frequent iterations.
Responsibilities - Lead scoping, design, and implementation for backend services and APIs across payment, billing, identity, and partner integrations - Drive production rollouts to completion with minimal oversight, including planning and contingency - Build robust, fault-tolerant systems that integrate with multiple external dependencies - Design and maintain data pipelines that support core product flows - Collaborate with product, design, and engineering peers to deliver in small, frequent iterations rather than large, risky releases - Partner with stakeholders to align on scope, set expectations, and deliver on commitments
Requirements - Minimum 6 years of experience in software engineering - Minimum 4 years of experience with Java - Experience working on a globally distributed team with a high degree of ownership - Proficiency with Java frameworks and tooling including Spring (core, web, and boot), Gradle, JUnit, and the JVM, including memory, performance, and GC tuning - Experience with service-oriented architecture, REST APIs, message queues, and scalable architectures - Hands-on experience with AWS services such as EKS, Aurora RDS, ElastiCache, and DynamoDB, plus containerization tools
Nice to have - Proficiency with CI/CD systems (preferably GitHub Actions), git, and automation - Experience with observability and monitoring tools such as Datadog to ensure high availability - Familiarity with big data platforms and tooling including Snowflake - Proficiency in Infrastructure as Code using tools such as CDK and Terraform - A track record of elevating team standards and mentoring junior engineers
