Role overview A Platform Engineering team is hiring a Senior Platform Engineer to operate, maintain, and elevate a production Ruby on Rails application and its supporting infrastructure. The work centers on performance, reliability, and scalability for a fast-growing product, with AI agents and automation treated as first-class tools for reducing operational toil.
Responsibilities - Proactively identify, triage, and resolve performance issues across the application and database layers. - Build and maintain AI agents, skills, and automations that streamline incident response, triage, and routine maintenance. - Strengthen observability by tracking metrics, SLOs, and SLIs across Ruby, Rails, and database systems. - Lead database capacity planning, version upgrades, and the database components of disaster recovery. - Oversee backup systems and pre-production databases, and keep runbooks plus operational context current for both engineers and AI agents. - Participate in the on-call rotation and partner with other SREs to address bottlenecks before they reach production.
Requirements - 5+ years of hands-on Ruby on Rails experience. - 3+ years operating production workloads on AWS. - Practical Kubernetes experience in production environments. - Track record profiling and benchmarking source code to surface performance gains. - Familiarity with Datadog or comparable APM and observability tooling. - Strong code review instincts plus clear written and verbal communication.
Nice to have - Experience building AI agents, LLM-powered automations, or integrations such as tool/function calling or MCP for engineering workflows. - Infrastructure as Code with Terraform. - Deep cloud networking fundamentals covering routing, firewalls, load balancers, CDNs, and VPCs. - Background with distributed data or event stores such as Kafka, Redis, Elasticsearch, Memcached, or TimescaleDB.
