Remote job
Senior Software Engineer, Identification
Job details
About this role
Role overview
A device intelligence platform built to detect and stop online fraud is hiring a Senior Software Engineer to develop and operate the backend systems behind its identification APIs. The role combines building high-performance Go services with reliability engineering, owning SLIs and SLOs, and scaling distributed systems safely as usage grows. It is a fully remote, globally distributed position with on-call responsibilities and a strong production-operations focus.
Responsibilities
- Design, build, and optimize backend systems for real-time data processing and web APIs, treating reliability, latency, and cost as first-class concerns. - Own SLIs and SLOs for core API services, using error budgets to balance shipping velocity with stability. - Build observability into services, including metrics, structured logging, distributed tracing, and alerts tuned to user-visible symptoms. - Participate in an on-call rotation, lead incident response and blameless postmortems, and drive follow-up actions to prevent recurrence. - Run capacity planning, load testing, and performance tuning so the platform scales ahead of demand. - Reduce operational toil through automation and partner with cross-functional teams on integrations, while mentoring other engineers.
Requirements
- 5+ years of backend development, including meaningful experience operating production services at scale. - Strong, demonstrated proficiency with Go, scalable APIs, real-time data processing, and microservices. - Hands-on experience running production services on Docker and Kubernetes, and with infrastructure-as-code tools like Terraform or CloudFormation. - Working fluency with observability tooling such as Datadog, including instrumentation, dashboards, and alerts. - On-call experience triaging live incidents, mitigating impact, and writing incident write-ups. - Strong SQL skills and experience with databases such as DynamoDB, Redis, or Elasticsearch, plus proficiency with Git, shell scripting, and CI/CD in an English-speaking global remote team. - BS/MS in Computer Science or equivalent experience, with the ability to work independently in ambiguous environments and mentor junior engineers.
Nice to have
- Analytical storage systems (ClickHouse, Snowflake, BigQuery, Redshift, Databricks). - Queueing and streaming systems such as SQS or Kafka, or performance profiling and cost optimization of high-throughput cloud workloads. - Vector databases (Pinecone, Qdrant) in production, ML-adjacent product engineering, concurrent programming, or strong knowledge of internet security and privacy mechanisms.
Benefits and work setup
- Fully remote, globally distributed company; candidates must be authorized to work from their home location, and visa sponsorship is not available. - Inclusive culture that actively encourages applications from underrepresented groups in tech.
