Backend Engineer, Core APIs

Role overview Build the high-performance backend systems that power a real-time device intelligence platform used to detect and stop online fraud. As a Backend Engineer on the Core APIs team, you will design, scale, and operate services that handle large volumes of real-time traffic, working primarily in Go and Node.js. The role blends hands-on coding with cross-functional collaboration and shared on-call responsibility.

Responsibilities - Design, develop, and optimize backend systems for real-time data processing and web services at scale. - Integrate backend components with other services, ensuring performance, scalability, and reliability. - Investigate problematic features end to end, forming hypotheses, running experiments, analyzing results, and turning findings into engineering improvements. - Conduct performance tuning, debugging, and testing to keep services efficient under growing user demand. - Share engineering best practices and contribute to a data-driven culture across cross-functional projects. - Participate in a shared on-call rotation with advance notice and balanced coverage, and mentor junior developers.

Requirements - 2+ years of backend development experience. - Strong, demonstrated experience in Go and/or Node.js with a willingness to learn the other. - Experience designing, developing, and maintaining scalable backend systems, APIs, real-time data processing, and microservices. - Solid SQL skills and hands-on experience with databases such as DynamoDB, Redis, or Elasticsearch. - Proficiency with general software engineering tools including IDEs, shell scripting, Git, and CI/CD pipelines. - Fluent English communication skills and the ability to work independently while collaborating effectively in a remote team.

Nice to have - Degree in Computer Science, Data Science, or equivalent practical experience. - Infrastructure-as-code experience with Terraform or AWS CloudFormation. - Familiarity with analytical storage systems like ClickHouse, Snowflake, BigQuery, Redshift, or Databricks, plus tools such as dbt. - Observability experience with Datadog or similar platforms, and comfort with Docker and Kubernetes. - Background contributing to large open-source projects and collaborating asynchronously across distributed teams. - Strong understanding of internet security and privacy mechanisms.

Benefits and work setup - 100% remote, globally distributed team. - Salary range $133k–$180k USD depending on location, with example ranges of $157k–$180k for NYC and $133k–$153k for Chicago.
