Senior PHP Backend Engineer

Role overview Work on the backend systems that power large-scale live entertainment experiences, payments, reconciliation and high-traffic flows used by millions of users worldwide. This senior role sits inside a distributed, event-driven architecture and focuses on solving complex problems, designing resilient services and shipping reliable code that handles real traffic at scale. You will collaborate closely with infrastructure, frontend, QA and product counterparts in a cross-functional squad.

Responsibilities - Design, build and maintain backend APIs and services for critical domains such as payments, reconciliation, fiscal automation and logistics. - Work on high-concurrency systems with a focus on stability, resiliency and traceability. - Integrate external services with complex, mission-critical logic. - Participate in architectural decisions to ensure scalability and maintainability. - Improve CI/CD pipelines, automated testing and deployment workflows, using Docker locally and in production. - Take ownership of monitoring, performance, reliability and observability for the modules you work on.

Requirements - Robust experience building backend systems, especially with PHP 8+. - Solid experience building and maintaining RESTful APIs at scale, ideally following OpenAPI or Swagger contracts. - Deep understanding of MySQL and PostgreSQL. - Strong knowledge of microservices, distributed systems, concurrency and event-driven architectures. - Experience with Docker, CI/CD pipelines and delivering software from development to production. - Proficiency with testing and code quality tools such as PHPUnit, PHPStan and SonarCloud, plus strong Git skills. - Professional proficiency in English.

Nice to have - AWS infrastructure experience with services such as SQS, Lambdas, CloudWatch, SNS, S3 and ECS or EKS. - Familiarity with Redis, caching strategies and message queues like Kafka or RabbitMQ. - Background with Symfony, Laravel or Slim frameworks. - Observability tooling such as Datadog or similar. - Experience handling services that process 1,000+ requests per second and critical external APIs in payments or financial systems.
