Senior Backend Engineer (Backend Platform)

Role overview Join the backend platform team powering a global live-entertainment marketplace used by hundreds of millions of people across 55+ countries. As a Senior Backend Engineer, you will design, build, and evolve the Python-based services that sit behind the consumer apps and website, focusing on reliability, scalability, and developer experience in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities - Design and ship end-to-end features within a product squad, contributing to architectural discussions across services and APIs. - Build and maintain event-driven services with attention to performance, reliability, and scalability. - Take ownership of core components, helping evolve their architecture and promoting best practices around observability and system design. - Lead through code reviews, design sessions, and mentoring of peers. - Collaborate closely with Product, Data, and other Engineering teams to improve platform capabilities and developer experience. - Drive continuous improvement, using business context and technical excellence to shape strategic initiatives.

Requirements - Strong knowledge of software best practices, testing strategies, and design patterns. - Proficiency in business-level English. - Demonstrated ability to take code from development through to production. - Hands-on experience building and consuming RESTful APIs. - Solid knowledge of relational databases and SQL. - Care for code quality and a bias for getting things done right.

Nice to have - Experience with Django or Flask, PostgreSQL, and Redis. - Familiarity with event-streaming platforms such as Kafka or RabbitMQ. - Experience with agile methodologies and inter-service event communication. - Background operating services handling more than 1,000 requests per second. - Exposure to AWS, Docker, and Kubernetes.
