Role overview A Staff Software Engineer position focused on scaling a serverless compute platform that runs customer code across a global edge network using WebAssembly-based execution. The role combines systems-level engineering with cross-team technical direction and offers chances to contribute back to open source projects central to the platform's runtime.
Responsibilities - Write platform-level Rust code handling host concerns such as back pressure, resource limits, and inter-service interactions - Own production reliability for a large-scale system with stringent performance and availability targets - Investigate and resolve performance bottlenecks and stability issues at high scale - Lead technically on projects: drive progress, communicate trade-offs, and report status to stakeholders - Participate in code reviews and help evolve the codebase and team processes - Coordinate with adjacent engineering and product teams to design clean, public-facing APIs
Requirements - Seven or more years of professional software development experience - At least three years in high-reliability systems programming, ideally in Rust - Comfort writing asynchronous, concurrent code - Willingness to learn emerging and still-developing technologies - Availability during US core business hours, with a preference for Western or Mountain time zones - Willingness to participate in an on-call rotation
Nice to have - Understanding of security concerns in multi-tenant systems - Experience with multiprocess scheduling and memory management - Background in systems-level optimization - Comfort with technical writing - History of open source contributions
