Senior Staff Engineer - Mobile/Kotlin (REMOTE)

Role overview

A fully remote, full-time Senior Staff Engineer role focused on Android development with Kotlin Multiplatform and Compose Multiplatform. The position partners with product, design, and platform leaders to architect and ship scalable mobile features for a large consumer sports application, while mentoring engineers and setting the technical direction. It is suited for a recognized technical leader who balances strategic thinking with hands-on execution in a fast-moving environment.

Responsibilities

- Lead end-to-end technical execution of complex mobile features and systems, from ideation and architecture through deployment and refinement - Define and enforce engineering principles, guidelines, and best practices across the Android platform - Act as the Android and Kotlin Multiplatform expert, making decisions that serve the mobile ecosystem and end users - Partner with product, design, and cross-functional leaders to align technical decisions with business goals and long-term scalability - Share code and complete features across multiple iOS and Android applications in coordination with peer mobile leaders - Lead incident response as part of an on-call rotation, diagnosing and remediating critical software issues - Conduct and elevate code reviews, mentor engineers at all levels, and champion improvements to quality, testing, and documentation - Remove cross-team roadblocks and steer design discussions, introducing innovative approaches to technical challenges

Requirements

- 10+ years of experience building highly scalable, performant Android applications - Deep expertise in Kotlin Multiplatform, Compose Multiplatform, and other modern Android technologies - Demonstrated ability to drive consensus and mentor others in coding and architectural strategy - Systems-level understanding of backend client APIs, platform engineering, and client-supporting systems for marketing and analytics - Knowledge of observability practices including logging, monitoring, and tracing in native apps - Excellent communication skills with technical and non-technical audiences, including executives - Team-first mindset and comfort in a high-growth environment where priorities evolve quickly - Willingness to travel occasionally to offices, conferences, and team events

Nice to have

- Experience sharing code across multiple native and cross-platform apps using native libraries or Kotlin Multiplatform - Familiarity with webviews and stitching coherent app experiences across multiple technologies - Background in the sports, e-commerce, or gaming industries - Ability to work in diverse codebases, both legacy and greenfield, across different languages and environments

Benefits and work setup

- Fully remote position - Base salary range of $163,000–$265,000 USD, plus bonus, with the range varying by geography - Full-time employment with additional benefits described separately during the hiring process
