Role overview Staff-level full stack engineering role supporting a large-scale online sportsbook platform. The position combines hands-on technical leadership with architectural influence, focusing on the design and delivery of fault-tolerant systems that power betting markets, risk tooling, and customer-facing experiences. The engineer will drive end-to-end execution of complex features while mentoring peers and shaping technical direction across the organization.
Responsibilities - Lead design, development, testing, documentation, and deployment of scalable production software across backend and frontend surfaces - Drive end-to-end technical execution of complex systems, from ideation and architecture through deployment and refinement - Align architectural decisions across the department, promoting clarity and simplicity while supporting long-term scalability - Partner with product, design, and cross-functional stakeholders to make high-impact technical trade-offs that balance business goals with system health - Lead incident response as part of an on-call rotation, diagnosing and remediating critical issues quickly - Mentor engineers at all levels, elevate code review practices, and champion improvements to software quality, testability, and operational metrics
Requirements - 7+ years of experience building highly scalable, performant, evolvable backend distributed systems, with strong proficiency in Java and Spring - Demonstrated ability to drive best practices in backend development and mentor others in areas such as clean code and domain-driven design - Solid grasp of observability practices including logging, monitoring, and tracing in distributed systems - Track record of Agile delivery and process improvement across multiple teams in a large enterprise setting - Strong communication skills with the ability to translate complex technical concepts for engineers, executives, and non-technical audiences - Comfortable shifting priorities in a fast-paced, evolving organization with a collaborative, team-first mindset
Nice to have - Background in the sports, gaming, or content delivery industry - Hands-on experience with React, Kafka, and event-driven architectures - Familiarity with cloud-native tooling such as Kubernetes, Helm, and Terraform - Experience navigating both legacy and greenfield codebases across multiple languages - Prior work in startup or high-growth environments
Benefits and work setup - Base salary range of $144,400–$205,200 USD, with additional bonus eligibility for full-time staff - Occasional travel may be required for offices, conferences, events, and team gatherings; some interview or onboarding steps may include in-person components depending on role and location
