Staff Engineer - Client Services (REMOTE)

Role overview Set the technical direction for the client experience of a rapidly scaling sportsbook mobile app, leading architecture and engineering excellence across multiple client-facing teams. The role blends hands-on coding with cross-team leadership in a Kotlin-first, Kotlin Multiplatform environment focused on real-time, data-intensive rendering of markets, events, and player statistics.

Responsibilities - Lead planning, design, and technical development of major product features from inception through deployment, aligned to platform strategy. - Define and scale best practices in code quality, system design, and testing across the client domain and peer teams. - Conduct rigorous technical design and code reviews upholding standards for quality, reliability, and security. - Mentor engineers across multiple teams and foster a culture of technical ownership and continuous improvement. - Lead end-to-end delivery of multi-team initiatives, coordinating across product, design, and engineering and representing the team in cross-functional forums. - Define testing strategy for complex client-side systems and raise the bar for observability, reliability, and resilience. - Participate in an on-call rotation and troubleshoot production issues outside business hours; occasional travel to offices and events.

Requirements - 7+ years building highly scalable backend services. - Expertise with Kotlin as a primary language, or deep Java experience with a clear willingness to work primarily in Kotlin. - Experience with modern backend frameworks such as Spring Boot or similar. - Hands-on experience with Coroutines and dependency injection. - Strong communication skills for technical and non-technical audiences, including engineering leadership, marketing, and operations. - Familiarity with Agile delivery and Scrum, comfort operating in a fast-changing, high-growth environment. - Bachelor's degree or professional certification, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Nice to have Large-scale distributed systems and event-driven architectures; cloud infrastructure (AWS or GCP), CI/CD pipelines, and observability tooling; functional programming paradigms; and actor-based concurrency frameworks such as Apache Pekko or Akka.

Benefits and work setup Remote role. Base salary range $170,000–$200,000 USD plus bonus eligibility for full-time employees. Some candidates may participate in an in-person multi-day cultural immersion experience in New York City; recruiters provide role-specific travel and participation details during the process.
