This Staff Engineer position centers on Android development for a consumer-facing sports platform that unifies free-to-play games, live event experiences, commerce, and sportsbook-style products into a single mobile application. The role blends strategic technical leadership with hands-on engineering, shaping architecture, design patterns, and engineering culture across the broader mobile organization. It is fully remote and well suited to a senior engineer ready to operate at the staff level inside a high-growth, fast-evolving environment.
Responsibilities
- Lead end-to-end delivery of complex Android features and systems, from architecture and ideation through deployment and ongoing refinement - Drive development, testing, documentation, and release of scalable, production-grade mobile software - Define and uphold engineering principles, coding standards, and architectural guidelines for the Android codebase - Mentor engineers at all levels, elevate the quality of code reviews, and champion improvements to testing, observability, and team documentation - Partner with product, design, and cross-functional stakeholders to align technical decisions with both immediate business goals and long-term scalability - Participate in an on-call rotation, leading incident diagnosis and resolution for production issues - Remove blockers on complex initiatives and travel occasionally for offsites, conferences, or team gatherings
Requirements
- 7+ years building highly scalable Android applications using MVI architecture - Expert-level proficiency in Kotlin, with the ability to mentor others on idiomatic usage and best practices - Deep Android platform knowledge, including current best practices, trends, and end-user considerations - Hands-on experience with Jetpack Compose and dependency patterns such as direct injection or service locator - Track record operating in Agile/Scrum environments and driving process improvements across teams - Strong communication skills with engineers, executives, and non-technical audiences, plus proven ability to collaborate across large enterprise organizations
Nice to have
- Experience with Kotlin Multiplatform or Compose Multiplatform - Familiarity with Material Design, ideally Material 3 - Client-side API design and client-to-backend integration experience - Exposure to additional languages such as Go, Swift, or Java
Benefits and work setup
- Fully remote position with occasional travel for team events and conferences - Base salary range of $144,000–$235,000 USD, plus bonus eligibility and full-time employment status
