Senior Software Engineer - Backend/Kotlin (REMOTE)

Role overview A remote opportunity for a senior backend engineer to design, build, and operate the shared services behind a major consumer sports application. The work centers on scalable distributed systems that power identity, payments, loyalty, wallet, and platform features used across sports betting, ecommerce, collectibles, and live-event experiences. Expect a fast-moving environment where priorities shift quickly and shipping reliable, production-quality code is the daily expectation.

Responsibilities - Develop, test, document, and deploy production-quality backend services and the internal tools the team relies on - Participate in on-call rotations to triage and resolve production incidents - Conduct code reviews and contribute to design and planning discussions to raise overall code quality - Partner with product managers and other stakeholders to translate business needs into technical decisions - Mentor junior engineers and interns while helping the team adopt and refine engineering best practices - Improve testability, operational metrics, and team documentation across owned systems

Requirements - 5+ years building highly scalable, performant, and evolvable backend distributed systems - Proficiency with Spring using Kotlin and/or Java, plus familiarity with clean code, hexagonal or layered architectures, and domain-driven design - Working knowledge of observability practices including logging, monitoring, and tracing - Track record of Agile delivery and cross-functional collaboration inside large enterprise environments - Strong communication skills and a team-first approach suited to a high-growth, rapidly changing setting

Nice to have - Experience in the sports, gaming, or content delivery industry - Fluency with Kotlin, Java, and/or Go, plus messaging tools such as Kafka or Amazon SQS - Comfort with cloud-native infrastructure, including Kubernetes, Helm, and Terraform - Ability to work across both legacy and greenfield codebases in different languages
