Role overview
Set technical direction for observability across large enterprise environments, connecting metrics, logs, traces, and events to service reliability and operational decision-making. The role combines architecture, hands-on platform engineering, incident leadership, automation, and guidance for global operations teams.
Responsibilities
- Define and govern observability standards, telemetry pipelines, retention policies, cardinality controls, and cost practices. - Lead evaluations and first-of-kind implementations, turning new monitoring approaches into secure, repeatable production patterns. - Establish service indicators, objectives, and error budgets; lead major incident response and evidence-based root cause reviews. - Reduce detection and recovery times and alert noise through correlation, dynamic thresholds, and dependency mapping. - Automate observability deployment and operations, integrating monitoring with infrastructure code, IT service management, and delivery pipelines. - Design monitoring for containers, Kubernetes, microservices, and multi-cloud systems; lead knowledge transfer, vendor transitions, and team mentoring.
Requirements
- More than 12 years of IT experience, including 5–7 years as a lead architect, SRE, or principal observability engineer in a large enterprise. - Demonstrated success moving organizations from legacy monitoring to automated observability platforms. - Hands-on ability to build scalable, secure telemetry pipelines and time-series data systems. - Experience leading early technology rollouts and complex operational or vendor transitions. - Broad experience across observability and APM, container platforms, cloud environments, infrastructure, automation, and major incident management.
Nice to have
Relevant Kubernetes, cloud architecture, or observability vendor certifications are preferred.
