Role overview
A senior-level opening for a mainframe database specialist focused on Software AG ADABAS and Natural environments. The role blends systems programming with hands-on database administration, supporting customer environments through upgrades, tuning, and continuous improvement. It is a client-facing technical position that includes participation in a scheduled 24x7 on-call rotation.
Responsibilities
- Plan and execute ADABAS database upgrades, applying service packs, ZAPs, and product licenses in coordination with vendor personnel. - Perform day-to-day database administration including definition changes, backups and restores, space monitoring, and reorganizations. - Conduct performance reviews, tuning, and optimization, identifying and resolving production issues across batch and online environments. - Build and maintain disaster recovery procedures, supporting both planned drills and unplanned recovery events. - Onboard new clients by analyzing environment requirements and aligning ADABAS/Natural configurations to best practices. - Author and maintain documentation for ongoing work, follow ITSM change control, and advise customers on how new product versions benefit their operations.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience. - 10+ years of professional experience administering and supporting Software AG ADABAS/Natural and related products. - Deep familiarity with ADABAS utilities, ADARUN parameters, buffer pools, protection and command logging, log archive, and change accumulation tools. - Hands-on experience with Natural Security, Fast Path, FDT and DDM definition, and database design. - Demonstrated success operating in large-scale 24x7 multi-database environments with competing priorities. - Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to manage vendor relationships and respond to multiple clients under tight deadlines.
