Role overview This position focuses on building and enhancing the backend for next-generation auto-design and auto-optimisation software used by engineers working with physical assets in heavy industry and the energy sector. The work combines software engineering with first-principles problem solving, producing tools that influence real-world performance of industrial assets across the supply chain. Responsibilities - Provide strategic direction on backend architecture and development priorities - Build efficient, reusable backend systems that support evolving product needs - Participate in backend design discussions and conduct thorough code reviews - Create automated tests and perform quality assurance across the stack - Develop process modelling, simulation, and optimisation features in partnership with internal teams and customers - Mentor and train other engineers in software best practices, design techniques, and team culture - Adapt quickly to shifting business conditions and feature priorities
Requirements - Hands-on Python development experience building production systems - Experience developing and deploying machine learning models - Demonstrated ability to design and deliver complex software applications - Strong analytical and problem-solving skills - Clear written and verbal communication in English - Genuine interest in heavy industries and the engineering work that drives global resource production
