About this role
Role overview An Engineering Manager position leading a small cross-functional product squad responsible for designing, building, and shipping features for a cloud-based clinical platform used by physicians. The role combines hands-on coding and code review duties with people leadership, partner collaboration, and the gradual shaping of AI-native product experiences. The team is fully remote and open to candidates in the US, Canada, and New Zealand.
Responsibilities - Lead a team of three to five engineers through architecture, design, implementation, deployment, and ongoing production support - Drive feature work end-to-end alongside a product manager, UX designer, and QA counterpart - Participate actively in code review, mentor engineers, and raise the team's engineering practices - Partner with Product and UX to scope and design new capabilities, then ship at least one AI-powered feature improvement within the first 60 days - Measure outcomes tied to patient and clinician experience, using data to iterate on team delivery - Help set the technical direction for AI-integrated product patterns across the stack
Requirements - Five or more years of professional software development experience - Two or more years managing engineers, with a track record of leading teams that ship high-quality software - Hands-on experience building APIs with modern backend technologies - Ability to explain technical problems clearly to both engineering and non-engineering partners - Genuine enthusiasm for building systems with AI and large language models
Nice to have - Experience with a modern JavaScript framework such as React or Angular - Practical work integrating AI or LLM providers such as OpenAI or Anthropic - Backend experience with Python and MySQL - Deployment experience on AWS or comparable cloud providers - DevOps or observability background, or strong willingness to learn - Familiarity with US healthcare or health tech
Benefits and work setup - Fully remote engineering organization - Open to candidates based in the United States, Canada, and New Zealand - Published salary range of $170,000–$210,000 USD or $185,000–$225,000 CAD
