A privacy-focused technology company is hiring a senior engineer to own web compatibility across its browser products on desktop and mobile platforms. The position centers on diagnosing why third-party sites break, distinguishing site defects from browser issues, and shipping durable fixes that protect user experience. The work sits on a dependability engineering team that values end-to-end ownership of incidents, tooling projects, and the broader compatibility triage process.
Responsibilities
- Lead web compatibility triage and serve as the resident expert on root-cause analysis - Reverse-engineer how sites detect privacy protections and develop countermeasures - Build shims for browser APIs so sites function across different engines and system webviews - Drive incident response when high-traffic sites break, shipping fixes across every platform - Develop agent pipelines and automation that reproduce and categorize reported breakage - Refine triage processes and projects that reduce churn and keep users coming back
Requirements
- 7+ years of experience building and debugging complex web applications with vanilla JavaScript - Deep familiarity with web standards, web components, and browser APIs - Strong ability to reverse-engineer obfuscated third-party code and distill minimal reproductions - Demonstrated experience triaging issues, leading incident response, and communicating with technical and non-technical stakeholders - Comfort leading complex, ambiguous projects with minimal oversight - Bonus: experience with Swift, Kotlin, C#, C++, or Python, plus shipping code beyond the web in native or desktop clients
Benefits and work setup
