Backend Engineering Manager

Role overview This management role leads the backend engineering skill community behind a cybersecurity platform's core services, including streaming data ingest, detection processing, baseline learning, asset reconciliation, platform APIs, and cross-deployment coordination. The position combines deep technical leadership, people development, and close partnership with product management to deliver reliable, production-grade distributed systems.

Responsibilities - Lead and develop the backend engineering skill community, mentoring engineers on technical growth and career goals. - Champion the vision and execution of backend platform components spanning microservices and data processing pipelines. - Build strong technical relationships across engineering leadership and collaborate closely with tech leads and product managers. - Provide hands-on technical input during software design, development, testing, and release. - Ensure ongoing support for fielded production deployments, stepping in for occasional development, triage, or troubleshooting.

Requirements - 7+ years of experience leading and building technical teams. - 5+ years developing or leading teams that build microservice architectures. - Strong hands-on software engineering background with fundamentals in backend system design, distributed systems, and production-grade development; experience with Rust is strongly preferred. - Leadership experience within agile cross-functional teams. - Familiarity with Apache Flink, RabbitMQ, or HashiCorp Vault. - Comfort stepping in for occasional development, triage, or troubleshooting support.

Nice to have - Experience working in cybersecurity, OT, or ICS environments.
