Cloud Ops Engineer | ELN

Role overview

A cloud operations role on the Electronic Lab Notebook (ELN) Platform team within a scientific R&D software organization. The position focuses on building, operating, and improving AWS-based infrastructure that enables engineering teams to ship and run services reliably. Work spans automation, reliability, security, and cross-team collaboration in a remote-friendly, global environment.

Responsibilities

- Develop and maintain highly available, secure, and scalable AWS infrastructure supporting multiple products and services - Drive automation through infrastructure-as-code, configuration management, and self-service tooling to improve developer productivity - Collaborate with engineering, security, and DevOps teams to implement cloud and infrastructure best practices - Contribute to observability, monitoring, and incident response practices to keep services resilient - Apply security best practices to infrastructure and operational processes, helping protect sensitive data and maintain compliance - Participate in peer code reviews and contribute to engineering best practices and knowledge sharing

Requirements

- Around 4+ years of experience working with cloud infrastructure and production services, ideally with hands-on AWS experience - Strong scripting and automation skills in Python (required), PowerShell, or Bash - Experience with Linux and/or Windows environments and solid Linux administration skills - Experience with at least one configuration management tool such as Ansible, Chef, or Puppet - Working knowledge of CI/CD concepts, pipeline design, and Agile or DevOps practices - Understanding of networking fundamentals including DNS, load balancing, and firewalls, plus exposure to serverless architectures such as AWS Lambda and API Gateway
