About this role

Role overview Seeking a senior backend engineer to shape the core of a modular, self-hosted data platform used by developers and product teams worldwide. This is primarily product engineering work: designing and shipping features in Rust that improve developer experience, expand platform capabilities, and keep the system fast and maintainable. The role partners closely with engineering, product, and design to translate user needs into pragmatic, production-grade solutions.

Responsibilities - Design and ship Rust features and platform capabilities that improve the developer experience of the core product. - Translate product needs into clear technical plans, including UX/API shapes, and iterate with product managers, front-end engineers, and design. - Build maintainable service and domain architecture with clean boundaries, strong test coverage, and thoughtful abstractions. - Own features end-to-end, including design docs, implementation, reviews, testing, rollout, and post-release iteration. - Collaborate in a remote-first, asynchronous team with strong written communication norms. - Raise engineering standards through code quality, reviews, documentation, and pragmatic technical decision-making.

Requirements - Significant backend engineering experience with meaningful production Rust work, typically 3+ years in Rust and 6+ years overall. - Strong systems fundamentals: concurrency, memory and performance trade-offs, distributed systems concepts, and API design. - Demonstrated ability to design and evolve resilient, maintainable architectures over time. - Ability to communicate trade-offs clearly and propose pragmatic solutions. - Experience working in distributed, remote-first teams, or strong preference for that style. - Excellent written and verbal communication in English.

Nice to have - Experience with data-intensive systems such as databases, streaming pipelines, search, caching, or storage engines. - Background with APIs and developer platforms, including public-facing or internal tooling. - Familiarity with performance profiling and optimization in Rust. - Comfort turning ambiguous product needs into shippable technical plans.

Benefits and work setup - Remote-first environment with flexible working hours, generally UTC-5 to UTC+3. - Small, high-ownership team with influence over architecture and direction. - Competitive compensation and equity participation. - Collaborative interview loop focused on real senior engineering skills.
