Job details
About this role
Role overview A cloud infrastructure company is hiring a Principal Data Center Architect to define the long-term physical and facility design for its global fleet. The role focuses on future-proofing everything from air cooling to 800VDC liquid rack-scale systems while supporting AI and ML hardware roadmaps. It is a remote, individual-contributor leadership position partnering closely with server, network, and storage architects.
Responsibilities - Own reference architectures for next-generation data centers, incorporating shifts in networking topologies and AI or ML hardware evolution. - Serve as the primary technical stakeholder for Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing (MEP) systems across leased colocation and build-to-suit sites. - Architect end-to-end cooling solutions with vendors for varied CPU, GPU, and emerging server platforms. - Architect end-to-end power topologies moving from 415VAC toward 800VDC for medium to ultra-high-density racks. - Lead proof-of-concept pilots for emerging infrastructure and translate successes into global deployment standards. - Evaluate non-traditional facilities, including behind-the-meter power and modular data center designs, weighing commercial and operational tradeoffs. - Mentor engineers and represent the company externally at conferences and through technical publications.
Requirements - 10+ years in data center architecture, infrastructure engineering, or a related field with a track record of owning designs at scale. - Deep expertise in MEP systems for both colocation and build-to-suit environments. - Strong knowledge of cooling technologies from air cooling to direct liquid and rack-scale liquid for high-density CPU and GPU workloads. - Familiarity with AI or ML hardware roadmaps and the ability to translate them into facility designs. - Experience leading PoC initiatives and scaling them into deployment standards. - Excellent cross-functional collaboration, communication, and mentoring skills.
Nice to have - Knowledge of behind-the-meter power, modular, and prefabricated data center designs.
Benefits and work setup - Remote role with a base salary range of $184,000 to $231,000, plus potential bonus and equity participation. - Reimbursement for relevant conferences, training, and education, plus access to a large on-demand learning library. - Flexible time off, an Employee Assistance Program, and locally relevant benefits.
