Engineering Manager AI

Role overview

This role leads an engineering team responsible for the intelligent systems behind payment routing optimization, authorization rate improvement, and AI-powered digital workforce products. It is a hands-on management position combining people leadership with technical depth across ML systems, backend services, and LLM-powered workflows. The manager owns delivery, guides technical direction, and partners with product, operations, and modeling leadership to ship reliable, production-grade systems.

Responsibilities

- Manage and grow a team of AI/ML and platform engineers, including hiring, performance development, and career coaching - Guide architecture for the ML model lifecycle (training, evaluation, monitoring, retraining) and for LLM-powered workflows such as agent orchestration and RAG pipelines - Oversee inference services that support live payment routing, ensuring strict latency and reliability targets - Maintain a high bar for AWS infrastructure, CI/CD pipelines, observability tooling, and PCI-DSS-aware data handling - Translate product vision into an executable technical roadmap with clear timelines and trade-offs - Partner with cross-functional leaders to keep feedback loops short and communicate team progress and blockers

Requirements

- 8+ years in software engineering, including 2+ years managing engineers - Significant experience building and shipping backend or ML systems at scale - Hands-on familiarity with modern AI/ML systems, including model training, serving, and LLM-powered workflows - Practical exposure to LLM-based systems running in production, such as agents, RAG, or AI workflow orchestration - Clear, proactive communication with both technical team members and cross-functional partners - Comfort operating in a fast-moving startup where priorities shift and re-scoping is expected

Nice to have

- Background in payments, fintech, or another regulated, latency-sensitive industry - Familiarity with PCI-DSS requirements, tokenization patterns, or PSP integrations
