Senior Software Engineer, Product
Job details
About this role
Role overview This is a senior product engineering role on a small, mission-driven team building AI-native video and audio editing tools. Engineers own outcomes end to end, taking work from a rough idea through design, implementation, launch, measurement, and iteration, in close partnership with product, design, and the rest of engineering. The team is organized into pods covering the core editor, growth and monetization, media engine, and an agentic AI co-editor.
Responsibilities - Own meaningful product surfaces end to end, including definition, design, implementation, launch, measurement, and maintenance of customer-facing features. - Partner with product and design to shape interactions, expose constraints, choose the right metrics, and find simpler paths to user outcomes. - Build ambitious full-stack systems across TypeScript and React front ends, Node.js services, Temporal workflows, and first- and third-party integrations. - Improve how the team learns and ships, including instrumentation, incremental releases, tests, observability, and release practices. - Provide architectural direction, thoughtful code reviews, and mentoring to raise the technical bar. - Contribute to a recently rewritten Rust-based media engine and adjacent tools, even while ramping up on the language.
Requirements - 5+ years of experience building and shipping customer-facing products, including end-to-end features that measurably improved user or business outcomes. - Demonstrated ability to own features and experiments from planning through launch, using analytics and metrics to evaluate impact. - Comfort leveraging AI agents to multiply impact and think critically about how to apply AI in everyday work. - Ability to ramp quickly in unfamiliar systems by exploring codebases and asking thoughtful questions. - Strong product instincts, including caring about how software feels and pushing back when the technically correct result is still wrong for the user. - Clear, human writing and rigorous validation habits (reproductions, logs, tests) rather than relying on appearances.
Nice to have - Experience with editors, media products, creative tools, or payment systems. - Familiarity with the core stack: TypeScript, HTML/CSS, React, Redux, Node.js, API design, Temporal Workflows, and SQL. - Building agents or experimenting with media-generation models. - Strength in experimentation and product analytics. - Experience with shaders, graphics rendering, audio and visual effects, or media formats.
Benefits and work setup - Base salary range of $220,000 to $265,000, plus equity and benefits; final offer depends on experience, expertise, location, and level. - Healthcare package, 401(k) matching, catered lunches, and flexible vacation time. - Mix of remote and hybrid roles, with periodic in-person collaboration and a flexible, adult approach to office time for hybrid employees. - Headquarters in the Mission District of San Francisco, CA.
