Senior Test Engineer

Role overview

A senior quality engineering role focused on end-to-end validation of embedded systems, edge devices, and network products. The position combines hands-on test execution with technical leadership, including architecting scalable automated test suites and verifying compliance with functional, performance, security, and Military Standard requirements. The work is remote with travel to customer and field sites in Virginia as needed.

Responsibilities

- Design test plans, methodologies, and scenarios covering functional, performance, reliability, security, and MilSpec compliance requirements. - Architect, build, and maintain scalable automated test suites across unit, multi-unit, and system-level tiers. - Operate containerized test execution environments using tools like Docker and Kubernetes for reproducible runs. - Wire automated pipelines into CI/CD workflows using platforms such as GitLab CI, Jenkins, or GitHub Actions. - Run lab-based hardware and software validation, plus field site assessments, often in parallel across multiple systems. - Capture qualitative and quantitative performance data and use it to drive iterative refinement of prototypes. - Isolate, log, and root-cause complex defects, managing defect lifecycles with development teams. - Produce objective test evidence, metrics, formal reports, and ad-hoc performance summaries to confirm operational readiness. - Follow federal compliance, security protocols, version control, and QA best practices throughout the lifecycle.

Requirements

- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related discipline. - At least five years of professional experience in system integration and testing, with hands-on work building and scaling modern automation frameworks. - Strong proficiency in Python or Bash and deep working knowledge of Linux. - Demonstrated Agile experience, user interface analysis, defect lifecycle management, and technical troubleshooting. - Proven track record collaborating across multidisciplinary teams, customers, and external stakeholders. - Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to lead customer briefings and author clear technical reports. - U.S. citizenship with an active Top Secret security clearance.

Nice to have

- Hands-on CI/CD pipeline experience with GitLab CI, Jenkins, or GitHub Actions. - Familiarity with Kubernetes platforms such as Rancher or EKS and containerization with Docker. - Exposure to security scanning, vulnerability management, or cybersecurity control validation.

Benefits and work setup

- Salary range of $155,000–$170,000 based on experience and technical skill set. - Remote position with periodic travel to Virginia-based customer and field sites.
