Job details
About this role
Role overview Set the quality direction across multiple digital projects while staying hands-on with testing. You’ll balance automation with manual and exploratory approaches according to each release’s risks, help teams catch unclear requirements early, and coach other QA engineers. The role is weighted toward leadership, with an estimated split of 60% leadership and 40% individual testing craft.
Responsibilities - Define test strategy and quality standards, choosing where automated coverage or focused human testing is most useful. - Build and maintain automated test suites with Playwright and check browser, device, and platform compatibility using BrowserStack or a comparable service. - Plan and conduct manual, exploratory, and regression testing for new, ambiguous, or frequently changing work. - Convert requirements into test plans and acceptance criteria, identifying gaps before they reach users. - Communicate quality risks, testing trade-offs, scope, and timelines to technical and non-technical stakeholders. - Record and track defects in Jira, verify fixes through retesting, maintain issue traceability, and mentor other QA engineers.
Requirements - 6–8 years of software QA or testing experience; work in consulting or multi-stakeholder settings is useful. - Strong hands-on experience building and maintaining Playwright test suites or frameworks. - Experience with BrowserStack or a similar cross-browser and device testing platform. - Sound judgment across manual, exploratory, and regression testing, including when automation is appropriate. - Ability to turn unclear requirements into practical test plans and acceptance criteria. - Strong Jira skills, clear written and verbal communication, and experience leading testing or technical work on large or multi-phase projects. - Experience testing across multiple CMS or SaaS platforms.
Nice to have - Familiarity with performance or accessibility testing, including tools such as Lighthouse or Axe and WCAG guidance. - Experience connecting automated tests to CI/CD pipelines, using structured test cases such as Gherkin, or working with test case management tools. - Background in large-scale debugging, performance investigation, or establishing SDLC practices.
Benefits and work setup - Remote-first work with teams distributed across the United States. - The stated annual base compensation range is $85,000–$110,000; actual compensation depends on experience, skills, and location.
